The Indiana University Center for Pharmacogenetics and Therapeutics Research in Maternal and Child Health   An IUPUI Signature Center

Many health problems occur in pregnancy that can significantly impact the health of both women and their unborn children.

These conditions require drug therapy but the pharmacology of most medications used in pregnancy is poorly characterized. This compromises effective and individualized treatment.

Pharmacogenomics is the study of the role of inheritance in individual variation in drug response. Some drugs work well in some patient populations and not as well in others.

Studying the genetic basis of patient response to therapeutics allows drug developers to more effectively design therapeutic treatments.
